Giddy

Few things in life make me giddy. One area of my life that tends to bring me giddiness is cooking. I just bought new pans. Giddy! Let's look at them, shall we?

I had to wash them, dry them...

...oil them up and put them on the burners for a few minutes.

Guess which brand it was? Mr. Bobby Flay's.

In my world of cooking giddiness, the next thing that would make me crazy-giddy would be a gas range!!

Since that ain't happenin' anytime soon, I'm off to buy my Mega Millions drawing. Then if I win I'd be giddy with my new range, in my new house, on my new horse property with my new... I'll keep you posted.

OctoberBaby

I stumbled upon a preview for the movie OctoberBaby last week and was moved instantly. Take a peek...

I knew right away I had to see this movie. When I saw a poster for OctoberBaby at our theater I did a little jump, clinched my hands and said, "It's here, it's here!!" The girls thought I'd lost it. I explained that it was about adoption!

Today Scott and I saw the movie. It isn't like my adoption story, but I think that no matter how you made it into this world and were then adopted, it will strike a chord. To know a woman gave you life and then gave you a new family, what bravery.

The ending gripped me. The main character tells her dad, "Thanks for wanting me." Oh my! The tears came later when I told Scott just how thankful I am that Julie wanted life for me, and my Mom and Dad wanted me! God knew exactly how this was all going to play out.

Journal of a Tree

Happy Spring! March 20th is the first day of Spring, but there were more important things to blog about yesterday, namely someone's birthday. So I bring you a new idea today, the second day of Spring. On the 20th of each month I am going to try and remember to take a photo (or 12) of this tree by our house...

This is a tree I love watching as I pass by each day. There have been many looks for this tree during the various seasons we have here in Colorado. Full with leaves, lonely without. Lost in the fog, covered in snow, glowing with a sunset in the background. I've been wanting to keep a photo journal of it, so here I go.

Look at the character of this tree.
I wonder how old it is and what it would tell us.

I think I'll go ask. Maybe it will talk to me like in The Giving Tree.

Happy Birthday Little Man!

How does 8 years fly by so fast? Tennison celebrated his 8th birthday in style in both Arizona and Colorado. A week long celebration is the only way to go!!

Dinner at Babbo's in Arizona!

Ten was slurpin' up his spaghetti with style!

Nana made banana splits - hey, that kinda rhymes.
Then we were off to play Pickleball... that's a blog for another day.

The big gift this year was a new skateboard that will do all the tricks he needs to do!

Thanks to Reagan he'll be stylish on his board!

For every birthday of Scott's, Whitney suggests buying him a basketball.
Guess what she bought for Ten? Yep, a basketball... for his over-the-door hoop!

Two new DS games.

And last but not least, a Hawkeyes football from Miss Julie.
Pretty funny he'd have his "Beak 'em Hawks" sweatshirt on.

I love you Tennison!
You are my favorite little boy in the whole world.

Afternoon Tea

While we were in Arizona my mom took us girls to an afternoon tea at the Phoenician Hotel. What a treat for all of us.

We arrived to the Phoenician a little early so we took in the sights from the patio.

Once we were seated it was a high tea indeed!!

The china place settings were beautiful.
Everything was so delicate and pretty.

We each got to order our own tea, Whitney chose orange spice.
The teapots had loose tea leaves giving us the full high tea experience.

After our tea was served, we were served each of the finger sandwiches... yum.

Then we had scones, buttermilk and cranberry... yummier!
They had lemon curd and strawberry jam. Speaking my language for sure.

To top it all off we had an amazing assortment of desserts.
The top right had edible gold on it, fun!

By this point we were all so full! Our server, Wanda, was a hoot. She said, "Look at your Grandmommy, she is so happy and proud. Where else can you get three generations in one place and all be happy?" She was right!

She came to offer us seconds on dessert, that was when Whitney shocked her. She asked for... another egg salad sandwich. Wanda was ready to grab something chocolate, but instead, "Oh, I was not expecting that." She brought her another sandwich... and the recipe!!

After the tea we went outside to tour the resort.
We found beautiful petals to put in our hair.

Crossing between two of their many pools!

A cactus garden.

Do you remember the movie Parent Trap? There is a line where the girl sniffs the grandpa and he asks, "What are you doing?" I'm making a memory. We spent a week sniffing, figuratively, to make memories. Thank goodness for infinite amounts of photos and memories to last a lifetime.

Thanks Mom, we sure made a great memory with you!

That Is One Big Hole

After a full day of driving and about 17 variations of "When will we get there?", we arrived at the Grand Canyon. And was it ever grand! As we were walking toward the South Rim, there was a die-hard mountaineering family in front of us. They each had a backpack on that looked straight from REI with some sort of water source. Scott says, "We don't have backpacks or water." To which I replied, "I'm not here for some mountain trek, I'm here to see the big hole." The kids chuckled while relieved that we weren't that family. They were ready to get to Nana & Grandpa's house.

Love my big ol' zoom lens.

One happy family comfortable with staying behind the guardrails.

Our first view of the canyon was incredibly breathtaking. I was in awe that God would take the time to give us such an amazing sight to see. He is so creative!

*I took a ton of pictures, but lucky for you the Internet here is taking forever.
